the language just like a great artisan handles his or her tools
skillfully or a superb soccer player makes an artistic move dribbling
the ball. You Japanese language learners are no exception, right?
I will give you plenty of exercises to push you up to a higher level.
You are supposed to put the key English sentence into Japanese
and paraphrase it in as many ways as you can!
Are you ready? Follow me and let's dive into the real Japanese world!
Today's Key Sentence
He is a quiet person.
Plain and simple, right? How do you say that in Japanese?
Give it your best shot!
You see the answers and some instructive tips below and
don't forget to check the audio file to talk like a native
Kare wa otonashii hito desu.
"おとなしい" is a very basic word to describe people and
even Japanese kids use it.
Kare wa monoshizukana hito desu.
You can use "しずかな" for things such as "静かな部屋(しずかなへや
= quiet room)", but "ものしずかな" is used to describe people only.
Kare wa kuchikazu no sukunai hito desu.
Kare wa mukuchina hito desu.
Kare wa kamokuna hito desu.
③④ and ⑤ sound like "He is a man of few words" and
⑤ is the most difficult expression for highly cultured
Japanese people. The first letter "寡" means "few" and
the second one "黙" means "remain silent".
Aitsu anma shaben naku ne?
This sounds too casual, unrefined and uneducated.
"あいつ" is a rude word for "he". "あんま" is short
for "あんまり", which is a casual form for "あまり".
If you use "あまり" and "ない" in a sentence, that
combo works just like "not very much". This sentence
sounds like "That guy doesn't talk a lot, huh?"
If you make it more polite, it should be
Kare wa Amari shaberi masen yo ne?
Do you want more politeness? Well, try this one!
Ano kata wa amari ohanashi ni nari masen ne?
Now check the audio file and listen to all the sentences!
How was it? I hope you enjoyed it and learned a lot.
Now you are one step, two steps and a lot more steps closer
to the real Japanese world!
Have a good one!
