易しい英単語をネイティブ感覚で使いこなす術をご紹介するこのシリーズ、
大好評につき第4弾です！今回も華麗な包丁さばきで、素材を十二分に
活かす、極上の5品をご紹介しましょう。Bon Appétit!

-に一文字入ります。

1) 年老いたとは言え、彼は未だに一流である。

Despite his age, he is still in the b-- t---.

2) 君は口先だけで、行動が伴っていないね。

You are a-- t--- and no action.

3) 「新しい仕事はどう？」「上司と面倒なことになりそうだ」

"How do you like your new job?"
"I'll get in h-- w---- with my boss."

4) あの外野手は肩がいい。

That outfielder has a g--- a--.

5) パーティーを楽しんだかい？

Did you h--- a b--- at the party?





OK, let's check the answers!

1) 年老いたとは言え、彼は未だに一流である。

Despite his age, he is still in the big time.

大きな時流の中にある、というイメージで覚えましょう。

2) 君は口先だけで、行動が伴っていないね。

You are all talk and no action.

そのまんまですね(笑)

3) 「新しい仕事はどう？」「上司と面倒なことになりそうだ」

"How do you like your new job?"
"I'll get in hot water with my boss."

お湯はお湯でも熱湯の中というイメージで、トラブルの中という
意味になるわけですね。絶対押すなよ！

4) あの外野手は肩がいい。

That outfielder has a good arm.

英語だと腕なんです。

5) パーティーを楽しんだかい？

Did you have a ball at the party?

この場合のballは球ではなく、ballroom(ダンスホール)のballですね。


Aha, I'm in hot water. What do you want?
