ことばのいずみ~Fountain of Language

まずは問題です。次の二つの文の違いは何でしょう？

①これがいいです。
②これでいいです。

ご覧のとおり、違いはたったの一文字、「が」と「で」ですね。
しかしながら、この一文字が大きな意味の違いを生んでいます。

あなたが蕎麦屋に食事に行き、メニューを選ぶとしましょう。



1きつねそば
2天ぷらそば
3かき揚げそば
4たぬきそば
5コロッケそば
6にしんそば

もしあなたが気に入った物、食べたい物があれば、こう言います。

「これがいいです」

しかし特に気に入った物がなく、とりあえずこれにしておくしかない
という場合には

「これでいいです」

と言います。

いくつかの選択肢の中から一つを選ぶ場合、「が」を使うと肯定的な
響きがあります。また「が」を使うと、「他のものではない」という
意味合いを強調することもできるのです。

「あなたが田中さんですか？」
「いいえ、私は吉田です。あそこにいる人が田中さんです」

さあ、「が」と「で」の使い分け、理解できましたか？プロポーズする時には
特に重要です。もちろん



「あなたがいいです」

と言わなくてはいけませんね。もし誤って

「あなたでいいです」

と言ってしまうと、間違いなくあなたのプロポーズは失敗に終わりますよ！

First of all, let me ask you a question. What is the difference
between the following two sentences?

①これがいいです。
②これでいいです。

As you see, the only difference is just one letter, "ga" and "de".
However, the letters make a huge difference in meaning.

Now let's think you go to a soba restaurant and choose what you eat.



1 kitsune soba (deep-fried tofu)
2 tempura soba (usually fried prawn)
3 kakiage soba (fried vegetables)
4たぬきそば (deep-fried tempura dough)
5コロッケそば (croquette)
6にしんそば (herring simmered and seasoned with soy sauce, sugar
and sake)

If you find something you really want to eat, you say

「これがいいです」 Kore ga ii desu. I like this. or I'll have this.

However, if you don't find your favorite and then need to choose one
to fill your stomach, you say

「これでいいです」　Kore de ii desu. This is OK. or I'll choose this if I must.

It sounds like "I don't like this, but I have no other choice."
You can show you are unhappy about the decision.

If you have some choices and choose one, you sound affirmative by using "ga".
Plus, you can emphasize the subject in your sentence sounding like "it is
what I need, not others".

「あなたが田中さんですか？」
「いいえ、私は吉田です。あそこにいる人が田中さんです」
"Anata ga Tanaka-san desuka?"
"Iie, watashi wa yoshida desu. Asoko ni iru hito ga Tanaka-san desu."
"Are you Mr. Tanaka?"
"No. I'm Yoshida. The person over there is Mr. Tanaka."

Well, do you understand how to use "ga" and "de"? It is extremely
important to use it properly when you make the marriage proposal.
Of course you must say



「あなたがいいです」
"Anata ga ii desu."

If you make a mistake and say

「あなたでいいです」
"Anata de ii desu."

Your proposal will be turned down for sure!
