英語で日本語学習 : Millions of Colors! (1) 日本語百花繚乱!

It is all language learners' dream to have a great command of
the language just like a great artisan handles his or her tools
skillfully or a superb soccer player makes an artistic move dribbling
the ball. You Japanese language learners are no exception, right?

I will give you plenty of exercises to push you up to a higher level.
You are supposed to put the key English sentence into Japanese
and paraphrase it in as many ways as you can!

Are you ready? Follow me and let's dive into the real Japanese world!

Today's Key Sentence

It's good news.

Plain and simple, right? How do you say that in Japanese?
Give it your best shot!

You see the answers below and also check the audio files to get
some instructive tips!

It's good news.

①それはいい知らせだ。(それはいいしらせだ。)
②それはいいニュースだ。(それはいいにゅーすだ。)

☆If you say "良い(よい)" instead of "いい", you sound more formal.

③それはグッドニュースだ。(それはぐっどにゅーすだ。)
☆Some Japanese people talk like this, I mean, they tend to
use plenty of katakana Japanese words though I don't like it.
Some of them even say "グットニュース" just like they say "バック"
for bag and "バット" for bad. Actually if a native English
speaker say this with a proper(?) Japanese accent, it should
sound hilarious and you will make people around you laugh a lot,
I bet!

④それは吉報だ。(それはきっぽうだ。)
⑤それは朗報だ。(それはろうほうだ。)

☆Uncultured Japanese people don't use these even once in their lives. lol
Personally I feel like the latter is used more often than the former.

Of course if you say "です" instead of "だ", you sound more polite
and refined.

Now check all the sentences with "だ" and "です". You should
choose the better one depending on the situation. Plus, if you
put "ね" after "です", you sound softer and warmer, but a bit more
casual. All right, let me record the sentences with "ですね", too!
Lastly, I've already got some big fans of the way some unrefined
and uneducated Japanese guys talk. lol Enjoy the special addition!

だ

です

ですね

おまけ

How was it? I hope you enjoyed it and learned a lot.
Now you are one step, two steps and a lot more steps closer
to the real Japanese world!

Have a good one!
